Pirates and patriots at Greene County schools

The Greene County schools were home for pirates and patriots this past week.

Pirates 2The sixth grade choir on Tuesday  performed “Pirates: The Musical” by Roger Emerson in the intermediate school gym in Grand Junction. Solo roles were sung by Kendall Fecher and Avery Bardole. The Colored Beard pirates (Bluebeard, Blackbeard, Yellowbeard, etc) were Hannah Curtis, Josey Weaver, Hannah Action, Clayton Peters, Madison Hall, Ashlyn Frederick, MaKennna Fox and Cameren Miller.

Other pirates were Lizzy Allen, Conner Allender, Colton Aubrey, Johnathan Brown, Hailey Davis, Paige Egeland, Lauryn Killion, Kasha Lansman, Jade Lowmiller, Tessa Lowmiller, Chad Maston, Ariel Mills, Jon Moore, Brianna Osterson, Chance Peterson, Gailee Richter, Austyn Sweeney, Jaxon Warnke, Chelsey Williams, Sadie Wilson, Andrea Grundon and Julia Oyres. The prisoners were Kamy Cathers, Ana Coronado, Cheyanne Ferguson, Jackson Gerdes, Maezie Holderby, Madison Meyers, Emma McColley, Kaylie Millard, Joslyn Monthei and Gabby Pollock.Pirates 1

The choir has rehearsed the musical an hour a week since January, according to general music teacher and choir director Brenda Roberts. “It’s great to give the kids an opportunity to work on something like this. There’s a lot of learning taking place,” she told the audience.

On Thursday, the middle school school gym was packed with patriots as students in grades 1-3 presented their music and movement program “We Are Americans.” The program did not include the standard patriotic songs, but newer songs all on a patriotic theme. Classes sang separately and together, and each class performed a moving routine.

Parachute routines are always part of the program. This year first graders in Mrs Timmons’ and Mrs Wallace’s classes had the fun.

Mrs Hinote’s second graders finished their movement routine with an impressive color presentation.

 

 

 

Ele program Fifty NiftyA favorite over the years, “Fifty Nifty United States” was back again. The combined second grades sang while third graders in Mrs Ausberger’s and Mr Paulsen’s class trouped in with the state.

Student artwork and their writings about relatives in the military were posted for parents during the program. The program was a joint effort of music teacher Susan Turner and phys ed teacher Lori Danner.
